Easter Lily badge

£3.00

Easter Lily badge. In 1927 members of Cumann na mBan began to sell badges which featured the Arum or Easter Lily.  The objective was to honour Ireland’s patriot Dead.  The Lily was chosen as it was already an international flower of requiem, while on the other hand the flower shared the colours of the Irish national flag, the Tricolour.

In the 1930s the Fianna Fáil government banned the sale of the lily.  Nevertheless, Irish Republicans persisted in its promotion and continue to do so to this day.
