£12.00

Over a traumatic seven months in 1981 Irish republican prisoners in the H-Blocks of Long Kesh took on the might of the British establishment. Ten prisoners laid down their lives on hunger strike, their sacrifices boosting support for the republican cause, and capturing the attention of the world. But years earlier two men held in England where the first to die on hunger strike over the issue of repatriation and political status. They were Michael Gaughan and Frank Stagg—whose moving letters to loved ones are published in this book.

With an introduction by Síle Darragh, who commanded IRA women prisoners in Armagh Jail during the 1980 hunger strike, The Comrades is a unique collection by former prisoners who personally knew the men who died on hunger strike in 1974, 1976 and 1981.

The book is an important part of the history of prison struggle.
